PRESS: Watchdog wants to test system uncovering lies in video

MOSCOW, Nov 2 (PRIME) -- The National Center for Cognitive Research at Russia’s ITMO University is designing artificial intelligence (AI)-based service Expert to check video records for lies and manipulation for the General Radio Frequency Center, business daily Kommersant reported on Wednesday quoting sources and the authority.

The daily said that a prototype was presented to the communications service at a meeting of the General Radio Frequency Center’s AI expert council in July. The watchdog’s head Andrei Lipov was interested in the solution and asked to hand it over to the authority for testing as soon as possible.

The service analyzes video records for lies and can be used to uncover deepfakes. “If ITMO provides a steadily functioning technology as a ready-made product, the General Radio Frequency Center will consider its use,” Alexander Fedotov, head of the research and development center at the General Radio Frequency Center, told the daily.

An ITMO representative said that system Expert analyzes video and audio records by assessing the level of confidence, aggression, congruence, and others. The system works with English, but the indicators can be obtained in any language.
